"In the Steps of Wallace" - An evening with orangutan and wildlife expert John Mackinnon

12 November, 2013, 6.30pm-9pm The Linnean Society London

Ticket price includes wine and there will also be a raffle.
Please buy your ticket online here.

2013 marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Alfred Russel Wallace, best known for independently conceiving the theory of evolution by natural selection and co-publishing a paper on the subject with Charles Darwin in 1858.

Wallace carried out extensive fieldwork, where he identified the “Wallace Line” that divides the Indonesian archipelago into two distinct parts, a western portion in which the animals are largely of Asian origin, and an eastern portion where the birds and mammals are more similar to those of Australia. A little known fact is that no primates are found beyond the Wallace line.

To coincide with this significant anniversary, Orangutan Foundation trustee Dr John MacKinnon will be giving a lecture in London. John is a pioneer of wild orangutan research and has been working in Asian conservation and ecology for over 40 years.

On the evening, Dr John MacKinnon will be focusing on the continuing legacy and relevance of Wallace today. The talk will give vital insight into Wallace's work within such fields as island biogeography, climate change, conservation and his favourite species - the orangutan and its luxuriant home on Borneo.

Tickets can be bought online via our shop from which you will receive a confirmation email. Alternatively you can pay by cheque (made payable to 'Orangutan Foundation', for our address see here) or over the phone by debit or credit card. On receipt of any payment your name will be placed on the paid-attendees entry list (please bring a form of identification on the night) or your tickets can be sent by post on request.
