Research provides the basis for making key decisions on the conservation of important habitats. The Orangutan Foundation supports and encourages Indonesian and international research.


Pondok Ambung Tropical Forest Research Station

The research station is situated on the Sekonyer Kanan river inside Tanjung Puting National Park. It is a park facility that has been developed and maintained by the Orangutan Foundation since 2005. It is used by international researchers, Indonesian students and university groups for wildlife and forest research. Click here for more details.


Belantikan Hulu Research Stations

A small research station has been built in the Belantikan Hulu region by the Belantikan Conservation Programme (BCP) - a joint initiative of the Orangutan Foundation and Yayorin During 2013, extensive surveys of Belantikan’s ape populations, including gibbons, have been undertaken.


Research Grants

In line with the Orangutan Foundation’s aim to promote research it has been running a small grants programme for almost two decades. It offers up to four small annual research grants to Indonesian students.
