|
|
The Orangutan Care Centre and Quarantine Facility (OCCQ) operated by the US based Orangutan Foundation International was opened in 1998 under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Forestry. It is situated in the village of Pasir Panjang near Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo). Past support to the OCCQ has included veterinary salaries, new enclosures and veterinary equipment and medicines.
The Centre’s facilities include an operating theatre, X-ray room, laboratory, library and separate quarantine complex. Adjoining the OCCQ is a remnant patch of rainforest which provides a learning area and “halfway house” for the orangutans before they return to a life in the wild.
