The primary goal of the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme SOCP is the conservation of the Sumatran orangutan, a species currently listed as ‘Critically Endangered’ by the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources).
SOCP is a cooperative venture involving the Swiss based PanEco Foundation, the German-based Frankfurt Zoological Society, the Indonesian Yayasan Ekosistem Lestari (YEL; Foundation for a Sustainable Ecosystem) and the Indonesian Government’s Directorate General of Forest Protection and Nature Conservation (PHKA).
