Welcome to Gunawan and Bobo
Welcome to Gunawan, a nine-month-old male orangutan, and Bobo, a six-month old, white-bearded gibbon! Both were rescued in April after being found in different villages, without any sign of their mothers, and reported to BKSDA (the local governmental conservation agency). You can read more about Gunawan’s rescue in our recent blog post.

NEW GUARD POST CONSTRUCTED IN LAMANDAU WILDLIFE RESERVE!
Following illegal logging activities in the South of Lamandau Wildlife Reserve, we have constructed a new guard post together with BKSDA and the support of Ozone and Jenny Power. This will deter further encroachment in the area and improve habitat monitoring.
Lamandau Wildlife Reserve Bird list reaches 86 species!
Orangutan Foundation maintains the only bird list for Lamandau Wildlife Reserve, spotted by Dr. Wawan, the Foundation’s vet and keen birdwatcher. Verified by the bird watching community, the list has now reached 86 species including the critically endangered Storm’s stork and crested fireback. The list is an important resource to improve our knowledge of local bird species.
11 Rescued pythons released into Lamandau Wildlife Reserve!
BKSDA (the local governmental agency) released 11 rescued pythons into Lamandau Wildlife Reserve! Hunted for the use of their skin for luxury leather items, a total of 20 pythons have been rescued over the past year.
Face to Face: With the Great Apes
In 60 fascinating photo portraits, the two nature photographers, Anup Shah and Fiona Rogers, show chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans, and bonobos in close-ups taken in the animals' natural environment. For this, the renowned and multi-award-winning wildlife photographers lived together with the apes in the jungle for a long time and built up an intimate relationship of trust. Only in this way was it possible to capture these intimate portraits of the wild animals.
