Orangutan foundation Board of Trustees

Our Board of Trustees provide expert advice and guidance that has enabled the Foundation to grow and develop into a highly respected and successful charity.

MS ASHLEY LEIMAN OBE (CHAIRPERSON) is the Director of the Orangutan Foundation, which she founded in 1990. Ashley has been actively involved in Asian conservation for over 40 years.  In 1985 she was on the organising committee of the New York Rainforest Alliance. In 1986 she studied with Dr Birute Galdikas in Tanjung Puting National Park, Indonesian Borneo. In 2006, Ashley received an OBE for her services to orangutan conservation. She is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and on the Council of the Anglo – Indonesian Society

GUY SANDERS (TREASURER) is a Chartered Accountant and Treasurer who has worked with many large international companies which has given him a broad global business perspective. He has an interest in wildlife and conservation and hopes to pursue this more now in his retirement. He brings a wealth of experience and a valued external business perspective to the Orangutan Foundation.

MR IAN REDMOND OBE is a tropical field biologist and conservationist known for his work with great apes and elephants, and is an Ambassador for the Convention on Migratory Species. In 2006 Ian was appointed OBE for his services to conservation.

PROFESSOR JACK RIELEY is a world expert on tropical peatlands and their conservation. Tropical Peatland. He is vice-president of the International Peat Society and a member of Ramsar's Coordinating Committee for Global Action on Peatlands.

SIR RICHARD GOZNEY, KCMG, CVO was a British diplomat for 39 years. He served twice in Indonesia, living in Jakarta for seven years and travelling extensively. He first spent time with orangutans at the old Bohorok Station in North Sumatra in the mid-1970s and later he visited the Orangutan Foundation work in Central Kalimantan.

RICHARD ROBINOW has been engaged in the plantation business for over forty years. His companies have been early adopters of responsible agricultural practices with R.E.A. Holdings plc being one of the few oil palm growers in Indonesia that not only maintains a substantial sustainability department but also a conservation team managing over 20,000 hectares of conservation reserves including a population of orangutans.
