Remembering Julia Cissewski

We are sad to bring the tragic news of the sudden death of Julia Cissewski, founder of the German NGO ‘Orang-Utans in Not e V’ (Orangutans in peril). Julia spent time as a graduate in Indonesian Borneo, providing an enrichment programme for orangutans in rehabilitation.

Passionate about the protection of orangutans and their habitat, when she returned to her work in Germany’s Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Julia founded the charity with colleagues, which she chaired for 17 years.

Through Julia’s tireless support, Orang-Utans in Not e V funded our forest restoration programme in Central Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo.

Orangutan Foundation is also honoured to be the Discworld Convention’s chosen charity in celebration of the Sir Terry Pratchett’s orangutan character, the Librarian. Sir Terry was a Trustee of the Orangutan Foundation, and a wholehearted supporter our work.

If you would like to find out more about how you can become involved, please contact us at info@orangutan.org.uk or +44 (0) 20 7724 2912.
