35 Years of Conserving Orangutans, Forests and People

As we celebrate our 35th year of conservation, we are not only committing to another 35 years of work but we are reflecting on the achievements we have had together, for the future of orangutans, forests and people.

ORANGUTANS

5 camps for post-release orangutan monitoring are in operation

33 orphaned orangutans cared for and returned to the wild

100 baby orangutans were born in the wild

290+ orangutans rescued and translocated into the wild

1,000+ times of orangutan health checks conducted


FORESTS

12 guard posts are in operation

264,600+ trees planted into degraded forest

100,000+ hectares of tropical forest actively protected

100+ firefighting and integrated patrol operations conducted

20+ years of research station operations

1,000+ wildlife and plant monitoring activities

127 wildlife species recorded from camera traps and direct encounters

4 priority animal species are monitored each year: orangutans, proboscis monkeys, tarsiers, and false gharial

820,000+ hectares of forest outside of protected areas have been surveyed for orangutans

 

 

PEOPLE

50+ research grants provided for students

29 educational activities conducted

2,111 people have been educated

Visitors from 69 countries have visited the Tanjung Harapan Information Centre

20 training sessions conducted

20+ villages have conducted outreach on human–orangutan conflict mitigation
